Comprehensive Vision & Eye Health Examinations
Many eye diseases and conditions come with no early warning signs. An annual comprehensive eye exam enables early detection of vision problems such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye changes, glaucoma, and more. Routine eye examinations are the best safeguard for maintaining good vision at any stage of life. According to American Optometric Association Guidelines, a comprehensive eye exam is recommended to be performed every year during school years, at least every two years in a healthy patient with no eye problems from age 18-60 and annually or more frequently after 60 or in patients at risk or those with eye conditions. In infants, exams are recommended at 6 months, one year, three years, and five years of age. During a complete eye exam, Dr. Tofigh will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team, and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.
Contact lens exams & fittings
Thanks to the advances in optical technology, almost everyone is a candidate for contact lens use. This includes patients with astigmatism and also those who prefer monovision or bifocal lenses. If a patient chooses to be newly fit or to be re-evaluated for contact lenses, this can be performed at the comprehensive exam as well. At our office, we offer a comprehensive array of contact lenses to suit each individual patient's needs. We offer daily disposables to extended wear soft lenses. Dr. Tofigh offers regular and custom lens services for both healthy and difficult to fit patients. Contact lenses evaluations include the initial fitting, trial lenses, and as many follow-ups required to get the prescription and material correct.
pediatric eye care , Myopia control, & binocular evaluation
We take pride in maintaining the vision of our younger patients in an environment that is lighthearted and fun. Pediatric eye exams are extremely important because there are serious eye conditions, if not caught early and managed properly, could lead to a lazy eye (amblyopia), an eye turn (strabismus), convergence insufficiency (poor ability to turn eyes in to read), oculomotor dysfunction (poor ability to make eye movements) which can halt children's performance in school
and delay their learning. We want to ensure good sight, vision, and eye health for the rest of your child's life and take a preventative approach to his/her general health and eye health. It is important that all of our pediatric patients have healthy and efficient visual systems to help make visual demands of learning in school easier. The American
Optometric Association (AOA) notes that one in four children suffer from some form of vision-related condition. The
AOA guidelines recommend exams at 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, and every year during school for childhood eye
exams. Dr. Tofigh will give comprehensive exams including checking stereovision (depth perception) and color vision
to kids starting at 5 years of age.

Glaucoma Evaluation
The advanced technology and equipment we use for medical eye exams at New Vision Family Eye Clinic not only enables early detection of many eye conditions including glaucoma, but also allows us to manage and follow it appropriately over the course of lifetime to prevent it from causing significant vision loss. Dr. Tofigh for Glaucoma evaluation will utilize the following procedures: a careful medical and eye history, checking visual acuity, checking intraocular pressure, pachymetry (measuring the thickness of cornea), gonioscopy (checking the drainage system of the eye/angle test), evaluating the optic nerve with slit lamp microscope, optic nerve imaging (high resolution picture of optic nerve), optical coherence tomography (measuring the thickness of the nerve) and visual field testing.
Diabetic Exams
Primary Care Physicians and Endocrinologists find an annual dilated eye exam extremely valuable in their treatment of patients with diabetes, as the eyes are the only area in the body where doctors can directly visualize the impacts of blood sugar on blood vessels. Diabetic eye exam could detect areas of the blood sugar damaging the blood vessel walls (microaneurysms), leaky blood vessels (hemorrhages/blood leaking, exudates/fatty material leaking, and macular edema/fluid leaking), tissue that is not receiving enough oxygen (cotton-wool spot/area of lack of oxygen, diabetic cataract/cataract caused by lack of oxygen and too much sugar, new blood vessels growing (neovascularization), and the negative impact of new blood vessels (retinal detachments, neovascular glaucoma, retinal hemorrhages/broken blood vessels. For Diabetic Eye Exam, Dr. Tofigh will perform thorough dilated eye exams, retinal photography (high resolution pictures of the retina in the back of the eye), and optical coherence tomography (a layer-by-layer scan of the retina). These tests are the standard of care for patients with Diabetes and will show the earliest onset of signs of high blood sugar damaging the eye. Dr. Tofigh will communicate her findings with patient’s primary care doctor and endocrinologists to ensure right treatment in the management of their diabetes.
